Lets Talk: UG Street Food

There is something about street food that is so mind-blowing. I believe street food is where you get the most random flavors…all which stick to the back of your mind. The thing about street food is that you totally have no idea who is preparing it(you are probably not going to speak to or see that person ever again!) and where it comes from but just trusting your instincts and dropping the ‘clean-freak’ for once, you indulge. Often times the taste is way beyond what words can describe (true story). The other day I was talking to my sister and she said that the best way to taste a region/country’s food is by going to the streets and indulging in the street food. It doesn’t hurt if it is done once, right? One thing is for sure though, it is definitely addicting (is that the right word?).

So today, I dare you to try some street food… OK. Maybe not, but I want to know, what street foods do you like here in Uganda and why?
My favorite by the way is fried Cassava, pancakes, rolex, roast maize/corn and mandazi. Talk about carb overload!

Seriously though, comment below to share street foods you like here in Uganda and why.

Making Dreams Come True

1940427_1407914894.378

First of all, I want to say this is a random Thursday post. Second of all I want to say this is going to get emotional. Be warned. Lets get to the point now, shall we?

I personally consider it a dream come true to be able to (finally!!!) food blog(you have no Idea!). And for that I am humbled and very grateful for the privilege. I believe it is a wonderful thing to dream, dream big and think of changing the world. I have my own zillion dreams running through this head right now. And wouldn’t it be a fly idea to know some one somewhere out there would be willing wholeheartedly to help make your dream come true? I have had my own ups  and downs in dreamland  but what makes the difference between mere dreamers and doers is that doers act upon their dreams. I have a dear friend called Louise whose dream,to travel the world, makes her lie awake and she would like your support in helping this dream come true. Please click this link to go to the page with full details of how you can help make dreams come true. As much as i acknowledge the fact that not all my dreams may not come true(and I am learning to be cool with it), it gives greater joy and a sense of satisfaction knowing I have made someones dream come true.

So, please, I humbly request you all to help dreams come true by either donating or spreading the word.

Why The Move

Today is the end of July. WOW! This year is flying by soo fast.

In the beginning of June, I moved this blog from my old url (which was by the way myfullname.wordpress.com) to this new url here.  During the months of April through June, I had suffered (more than) writers block  and was toying around with the idea of quitting the blog all together. It lacked a sense of direction. So after a much-needed break from it all (thus the random absences from April to June), I decided to transfer everything to a new url and have a fresh start.

If you read my About page, you will notice that I truly want to be in the food business(I may not necessarily be a chef because I realize it might be too late now…) and I have said it over and over again in my blog posts. If you have been reading this blog for quite a while now you will notice the change from random posts to more food related posts and recipes and pinterest pins. I have decided to not quit the blog(thankfully) and decided to have a direction as a foodie ( because from childhood I have been interested in food) and I believe I have something new to bring to the blog world(food-wise?!?!) because every recipe has a story behind it.

I will be food posting  once a week and then some randomness on Thursday. I am still new to this because I have realized nothing is easy. From purchasing the ingredients to shooting the finished products(I don’t have a camera of my own). I also realize life will be life. Some things might not work out and that’s OK. At least I will  have tried. But I have also learned to live in the NOW.

So, once again, this blog is a personal journal of experiments tried, failed and succeeded all in the name of being a foodie. And hopefully someday I will write that cookbook or own that restaurant(fingers crossed)!

WELCOME!

🙂
