DIY Yarn Pompom

Yes. I finally did the pompom. I have always wondered how it’s made but I finally got it. Here is the tutorial. Image

It was fun to do and now that I have learnt to do it, I’m thinking pompom headbands…the possibilities are endless. Anyway.

Today is my best friend’s birthday. We’ve been friends since high school and we have stuck together through thick and thin. I dedicate this pompom to you (would have sent it via mail but it’s still hard!) Happy Birthday Mikki. ฉันรักคุณ! 55555555!

Rain and Summer

DSC09367ju

It’s been raining a lot lately and there is something about rain that is so serene and calming to the soul. At least I think so I am particularly a sucker for the after-rain(you know after it rains, the whole environment looks and becomes  peaceful and calm…like its been washed clean).DSC09366f It always puts me in a contemplative mood and sparks my dreams of living in the Italian countryside (while baking brick oven bread(I die!)DSC09f364, sipping tea and crocheting. Ha!). I have had my fair share of rain. From the surprising ten minute rainfalls to violent terrifying typhoons that last almost a week. From  loud hail storms to the rhythmic  rainfalls that make you want to sleep like a child.  I have had them all. As long as I’m indoors and I’m not being rained on,  I heart rainfalls. The beautiful clean feel after it has rained is the most calming and the crystal clear raindrops on plants and flowers…ah! Should I go on? What little natural thing makes you feel at peace?

Someone asked me this week how my summer was so far and here is how I responded “Um…its fine haha…quite boring” He advised me to find a way to make it fun and worthwhile. I have a vague outline of what I’ll be doing. But I will be definitely be getting back on crocheting. The last time I crocheted something meaningful was way back in high school(I know. I also wonder!). I want to try some really complex patterns. I would also like to try weaving. I know I sound so way out of my head but I have been dreaming of weaving so much lately. I will also be writing proposals for my business(entrepreneur right there) and giving them out to potential funders and probably work on a new design  for Rare Beauty. And I just got my first summer job. It’s not big but its promising and motivating too. What are your summer plans?

DIY Hair Clip

Image

SO! I finally got myself to do the Big Chop. Yeah! The Big Chop. Sounds  funny but I did it. I had heard about it more than a half year ago and I was very much aware of  the fact that I needed to transition from chemical(ized) hair to natural but I couldn’t  put my finger around it quite yet. So time dragged on and I just kept my hair in yarn braids (more like twists) telling myself I’ll cut the hair when the natural has grown much longer. So last week I decided to get over myself and just cut it. It’s a huge thing for me because I have been growing this hair ever since I was in Grade 6…quite a long way huh! Guess we all I reach a stage in life when we just have to let go of the big hair. The next day after cutting my hair, my head felt really light and cold ha! It’s still hard to believe but I guess over time I’ll get used to having short hair. Speaking of short hair, I have a super easy hair clip tutorial that I want to share with you. Be warned that this hair pin is completely from scratch, which make it easier and fun(ner)!

Needed:

·         2 or 3 different colored pieces of fabric

·         A button

·         Hair pin

·         Scissors

·         Needle

·         Thread

So here’s what you’ll do. Cut the fabric to your desired shape (I wanted to do perfect round circles but I don’t know what happened!) One color smaller than the other (in my case I used three colors. one is so faint it can’t be seen!).  Arrange them in your desired style (it’s all about being creative.). Using a needle and thread, fasten the fabric layers. Add the button on top and then add the hair pin at the back. Fasten the hair pin till its firm. Then you are ready to go.

PS: The person in the picture is my little sister.
