DIY Paper Chandelier

GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERA

I was supposed to share this earlier this year but I don’t know what happened. Please don’t ask. This paper chandelier completes the transformation of our room that I talked about at the beginning of this blog here. I will share more of what we did later but I wanted to share this tutorial. It is as easy as 123…ok maybe not ha!

What you will need:

  • 4-6 sheets of white A4 paper
  • 1-3 sheets of colored A4 paper ( I used brown)
  • A round object(think jar/bottle cover)
  • A pair of scissors
  • white sewing thread
  • Needle
  • Square wooden frame
  • Pencil
  • Tape
  • Yarn( preferably white though I used orange)

Directions

  1. Using a bottle/jar cover and pencil, trace circles of the white paper
  2. Do the same on the colored paper
  3. Cut out all the circles using the scissors
  4. Using a needle and thread, make two straight holes in the paper circles. One at each end of the circle.
  5. Continue adding the circles on the thread until they are seven circles on each thread.
  6. Tie the end of the thread so the circles will not fall out
  7. Make 16 strings of  7 circles
  8. Using tape, tape the first circle of every string on the wooden square frame
  9. Make sure each side has four strings
  10. Using the yarn, secure the chandelier on the light fixture

PS: The frame has to be light weight to prevent any hazards

And there you have it!

The great thing about this chandelier is that it is so versatile. It works as a chandelier by night and a mobile by day.

Have a great weekend and  happy DIYing.

Cooking Class

Image

Yesterday I had a privilege of attending a cooking class. The first one I have had since two years ago. It was a class for two. The reason I am writing this is because it felt good to be in a class about cooking. It made me realize how much I miss those culinary classes. The familiar vocabulary, and having to share a common interest was just so heart-warming. And my teacher was the best. She gave us as many tips as she could and a few hilarious jokes too. We ended up baking a cake and making soy meatballs. It was a great moment I couldn’t help but share it.

What have you been up to lately?

LOL With Kennedy Kihire

ken1

This month of August, I am honored to be presenting you with RB’s  LOL first male guest. A dear friend of mine. Read more about him.

My name is Kihire Kennedy. I am a Film Director, Screenwriter, Producer and Poet at Kihire& Co. Agencies Ltd (Kihiray Pictures). I have written, Directed and produced films like SWAPPED, BREAKING THE MESH, HANG OUT and WATCH OVER ME, as well as a few documentaries.

I like making new friends, watching movies, facebook-ing and tweeting, writing poetry, singing, dancing, and listening to music. The fusion of soul music, RnB and Hill song is stress relieving, basketball (I was once a basketball captain in High school), table tennis, watching television, cracking jokes, taking walks, partying with friends. I dislike people who don’t keep their word and don’t consider an apology or worse still; seek attention with contempt.

I suppose living out loud means living with a positive mind, being able to share your thoughts and ideas for the betterment of the community one lives in.

After graduating from University, the world opened up fully to my eyes. It was moment of truth and yet challenge that stood out to groom me to take my life seriously as I had to live with the fact that I was no more dependent child. That is how i started taking everything I was doing seriously focusing on the future. I am glad, through the huddles thence forth I have succeeded as a film director, but in all I’m grateful the Lord (of course not the Lord of the Rings…hehe I mean Jesus Christ) didn’t leave me to wander, He’s been with me all through.

I get inspiration through so many people most especially those who take their time in doing what they love most to effectively speak to the world. The likes of my film mentor Mira Nair (Hollywood Film Director and Founder of Maisha Film lab), and also Steven Spielberg, Quinton Tarrantino, James Cameron; their works are exceptional and inspiring.

Unleash your ideas to the world; you never know they could change the world in their own way. The world has many problems; more positive thoughts and solutions could make a difference. Talk to people who will take you seriously and care to listen, that way your idea will be considered important. I rely on the thought that everyone; everywhere needs to live out loud through involving God in their plans and ideas for there is nothing one will start up that God doesn’t know about.
